When I first began writing this column, Washington was reeling from the unbelievable reality that Donald J. Trump had just become the president of the United States. The establishment was stunned, conventional wisdom was shattered, and Hillary Clinton has yet to recover. Now, after being sent into political exile, Trump has returned to the Oval Office in one of the most spectacular comebacks in American history. This time, however, dear reader, I will be watching instead of writing about the political drama.

After tending to this small corner of the magazine for the last eight years, it is time to bid farewell. I will miss the weekly challenge of sharing my observations in just 240 words for your consideration. We've battled many fake news stories, together, and maintained a level head while Trump's tormenters lose theirs. It has been a big and beautiful honor like you can't believe.
